Future Directions

The originality of the applicative effort resides in the fact that the evaluation process, through the cross-disciplinary use of the Mixed Standard Evaluation Scale (MSS), will lead to an exhaustive analysis of the types of communicational interventions for the area of the instructional-educational process from the perspective of the “knowledge-based” society. Such an individualised diagnosis will constitute a basis for further training and improvement sessions in view of professional acquisitions or improvements along the entire teaching career. I consider that the MSS may be used in the determination of certain elements of the local analysis of the training needs by the school teaching staff in charge with training, in chairs, by schools or pupils (from the practice of the education process); it may equally be useful for the lifelong education providers (universities, teaching staff offices, non-governmental organizations etc.).

The scale represents a qualitative and quantitative method of assessing the performance and quality of the educational process. It may become an useful evaluation tool for the teaching staff in schools the same as it may also be used in the analysis and diagnosis of the quality of the training – learning-evaluation process. The scale may be used at anytime, in any stage of institutional development or whenever personnel are recruited. This aspect reveals the usefulness of the scale for other educational institutions as well: school county boards, teaching staff houses etc. The usefulness of this research instrument resides also in the elaboration of teachers’ training strategies through lifelong training programmes, focused on the building and exercise of media competence in general or, contextually, at the level of school, on topics regarding the dimensions of the scale where teachers have scored low. The further uses of MSS may also concern: the elaboration of certain evaluation charts to be also used by pupils in the evaluation of the teacher or the combination of MSS with other research tools for the increase of the fidelity degree of the performance measurement; the elaboration of certain lifelong education programmes addressed to the teaching staff in view of actively integrating education for communication and mass media in schools, but also for the building and exercise of the pupils’ media competence.

In future researches the present results may be explained and thorough refine. These future directions may take into consideration the presence of the media competence of the beginner teachers or the stand-in teachers.
